what's worse is that the Washington state legislature is proposing a new gas tax that will raise the price an additional 15 cents over the next 5 years. What happenend to all the states repealling their gas taxes a few years back when it got to $2 ? ugh.....

IE7 details

IE7 Details Emerge: Varg Vikernes writes "Microsoft Watch has a story about new features we can expect in IE7 (code named 'Rincon') which they gathered through Microsoft's key partners. Apparently we can expect 32 bit PNG support, native IDN support, new functionality that will simplify printing from inside IE and, of course, tabbed browsing. The new browser also will likely include a built-in news aggregator. Apparently an important factor is security."

{from Slashdot}

All these "great innovations" sound a lot like the feature set that FireFox has had for over a year now. The sad thing is that IE will only have to be "good enough" to keep people from defecting to FF.

IBM gets behind PHP

IBM backs open-source Web software: IBM is putting its corporate heft behind a popular open-source Web development technology called PHP, in a move meant to reach out to a broader set of developers.

On Friday, the tech giant announced a partnership with Zend Technologies to create a bundle called Zend Core, which includes IBM's Cloudscape-embedded database and Zend's PHP development tools. Zend sells tools built on the open-source edition of PHP and offers related services.

This is very good news. I use PHP extensively and am really digging the new features in PHP5. Hopefully this will lend some more credibility to running PHP at the enterprise level.

Lots of catching up to do

  • Kieran got his first tooth last week and already has a second one peeking its head out.
  • Kieran also started swimming classes at the YMCA. He loves it. Which leads to my next point..
  • Tons more pictures and some video from his swim class is posted in the Kieran Gallery

This is all I can think of for now, but i'll update this if I remember more....

Judge Says SCO's IBM Case Lacks Evidence: The judge says he finds it "astonishing that SCO has not offered any competent evidence" regarding whether IBM has infringed SCO's alleged copyrights through its Linux activities.

{from eWEEK Technology News}

wow, it only took two years for the judge to figure this out....

The good ol' days

I stumbled across an article in the Purdue Exponent about the sledding that takes place on Slayter Hill every winter. I miss the days of getting liquored up and propelling myself down a hill on a trashbag or piece of cardboard. I was witness to many a hilarious event during those times.

My favorite quote from the article is this:

"Five years ago, the University used signs at the bottom of the hill to warn sledders about the danger; however, administrative officials found that sledders were colliding into the signs."

Adventures at Bally's

Tagged:

I dusted off my Bally's membership and headed up to the location in Tacoma to get a workout in. I usually tend to see something humorous everytime I go to Bally's, and this trip was no exception.

I was walking around a track that overlooks the basketball court. Imagine, if you will, Danny DeVito playing apickup game with 9 other young black males. That statement could pretty much sum up the hilarity of the situation, but it gets worse. Not only is this Devito clone about as good as a girl who sits the bench on a JV team, but he's talking trash and yelling at the other guys on his team to hustle, get back on defense, and to "respect the game". I almost thought I was watching a sitcom or something.

To top off my visit, I had to circumnavigate my way around a 300lbs naked black guy to retrieve my coat from my locker.
